Climate change and the challenges it poses to the insurance sector came to the forefront with the UNEP Insurance Initiative in 1995 (UNEP Insurance Statement).

This presentation (in French), provided by Niels Viggo Haueter, Senior Adviser at Swiss Re and affiliated with the Centre for Evolution of Global Business and Institutions at the University of York, looks at the history prior to this initiative. It looks at how risk management strategies related to meteorological variability have been progressively adapted to meet the challenges posed by climate change.
