Since 2005, the Institut Europlace de Finance (IEF), a foundation within the Louis Bachelier Network, has awarded the Best Young Researcher in Finance Prize to promising researchers under the age of 40. Since 2016, the prize has been sponsored by the SCOR Corporate Foundation for Science. In 2017, the IEF Scientific Council decided to extend the scope of the award to include research in insurance.
Candidates are nominated by the members of the Scientific Council of the Institut Louis Bachelier and the members of the Scientific Council of the IEF.
The final laureate is elected by the Louis Bachelier Academic Fellows.The mission of the Foundation is to support scientific research. The SCOR Foundation for Science supports various types of projects related to risk and (re)insurance, including academic chairs, research projects, conferences, and publications.
The SCOR Foundation for Science supports research in key areas of risk analysis: climate risks and their insurability, coastal flood forecasting, natural risks affecting forage crops, general risk modeling, Alzheimer’s disease, pandemics, infectious and emerging infectious diseases, genetic treatment for tuberculosis, monkeypox prevention, longevity and mortality modeling, meteorite risk, global automobile insurance, pension funds, best practices in risk management, earthquake predictability, post-earthquake behavior, and more recently in 2020, genetic research on COVID-19 and the impact of climate risks on Non-Life insurers.

As part of the International Forum on Financial Risks, organized by ILB / the Institut Europlace de Finance on March 30 and 31, 2026, the SCOR Foundation for Science awarded the 2026 Prize for the Best Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance to two laureates: Sylvain Carré, Full Professor of Economics at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Roxana Dumitrescu, Professor of Applied Mathematics at ENSAE Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris. A special mention was also awarded to Paul Voss, Assistant Professor of Finance at HEC Paris. The prize was presented by Elyès Jouini, Academic Vice President of Institut Louis Bachelier, and Philippe Trainar, Director of the SCOR Foundation for Science.

The 2025 prize was awarded to Olivier Darmouni, Associate Professor at Columbia Business School, for the quality and originality of his work on financial frictions, credit markets, and the real effects of unconventional monetary policies.
His recent research also examines the financing mechanisms of the energy transition, particularly coal phase-out and the specificities of renewable energy financing. By combining empirical rigor with an applied economic approach, Olivier Darmouni offers a fresh perspective on the major transformations underway in the financial sector.
As part of the 17th International Forum on Financial Risks organized by ILB/the Institut Europlace de Finance on 18–19 March 2024, the SCOR Foundation for Science awarded the 2024 Best Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance Prize to two laureates: Claire Célérier, Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and Paul Karehnke, Associate Professor of Finance at ESCP Business School.They are the 9th recipients of the IEF/SCOR Foundation for Science Prize and were elected by a large majority of votes for the 2024 Best Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance Award.
As part of the International Forum on Financial Risks organized by ILB/the Institut Europlace de Finance on 20–21 March 2023, the SCOR Foundation for Science awarded the 2023 Best Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance Prize to two laureates: Irina Zviadadze, Associate Professor of Finance at HEC Paris and Research Fellow at the CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research), and Olivier Guéant, researcher in applied mathematics and Professor at Université Paris I.
As part of the International Forum on Financial Risks organized by ILB/the Institut Europlace de Finance on March 21–22, 2022, the SCOR Foundation for Science awarded the 2022 Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance Prize to Jean-Edouard Colliard, Associate Professor at HEC Paris.
