Jean-Michel Beacco has just been appointed Chairman of the Economics, Management and Finance Department (SEGF) at École des Ponts ParisTech. This department trains financial engineers and economists with strong technical and managerial skills in the banking, finance and consulting sectors, but also in economic and statistical research, public action and project financing.

Jean-Michel Beacco, 58, is a graduate of the École des Ponts ParisTech and the Stanford Graduate School of Business (executive program). He is currently the General Delegate of the Institut Louis Bachelier, a partnership research network in economics and finance, including the Europlace Institute of Finance and the Risk Foundation, based at the Palais Brongniart in Paris.

He began his professional career at the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, where he participated in the first securitisation operation in 1990. In 1992, he took international responsibility for the credit cash, derivatives and securitisation markets at Société Générale (1992-2000), Crédit Agricole CIB (2000-2005) and Natixis (2005-2009). He has been an associate professor of finance at the University of Paris Dauphine – PSL since 2010 and a lecturer at SciencesPo Paris since 1995.

As Chair of the SEGF department, Jean-Michel Beacco, along with the entire team, will support the School’s strategy of training high-level engineers who are involved in sustainable development and capable of making important contributions to the service of transitions, including the levers offered by economics, management and finance. It also intends to contribute to the creation of new academic and industrial partnerships.

An education at the service of changing economies and companies

The SEGF department trains high-level engineer-managers capable of mobilising their skills in engineering sciences, economics and finance to create and implement complex projects at the international level and in the service of transitions.

The department’s teaching integrates the most recent developments in academic research, providing students with theoretical frameworks in economics and finance, analytical and quantitative skills, as well as an open-minded knowledge of contemporary debates and ongoing industrial transformations.

The SEGF department offers two courses:
– Economic engineer: expertise in economic calculation, geographical and territorial economics, transport economics and development economics;
– Financial engineer: expertise in corporate finance and project financing and green finance.

Since the start of the 2020 academic year, École des Ponts ParisTech has been offering 3rd year students a one-semester programme focused on sustainable and green finance, thus taking into account the needs of companies to comply with the Paris climate agreement and the new issues that are emerging regarding the financing of environmentally friendly activities and assets.
