Summary Tracing the way in which an accounting category has become a "problem" for public action, Benjamin Lemoine proposes a political sociology, both in the academic sense of the deployment of a reflection that takes politics as its object, and critically, since it is a question of denaturalizing "obviousness" and reminding us how much they are the consequence of choices and contingencies. In some respects, the thesis defended in the book appears from the nod to Sade in the subtitle, which implicitly associates "the State" with virtue and the market with vice. (first lines).
