Summary In this paper, we propose a methodology to evaluate the unreliability of level crossings systems and to identify their critical components. First, a fault tree analysis to evaluate the occurrence probability of the Feared Event (Collision between train and vehicle) over the time is proposed. The human factors and devices failures are also taken into account. Then, an importance measures study is proposed to identify critical components in level crossing systems.
