Summary Breast cancer screening reduces mortality only if screening is performed regularly. We investigate the effects of socioeconomic and health characteristics and how the French screening system influences the regularity of screening. In particular, we examine whether the screening modality chosen (organized or individual screening) influences the regularity of screening. Our results suggest that organized screening increases the probability of regular screening. In addition, women with low incomes or who have experienced episodes of precariousness have less regular screening than more affluent women.
