Summary The objective of this article is to understand how the digitization of the economy affects the business models of SMEs in the agri-food industry. We sought to understand the characteristics and innovation skills mobilized in this context, assuming that not all SMEs will adapt to this transition in the same way. Our results suggest that while all SMEs have recourse to a wide range of innovations, the form taken by these transformations depends largely on the category of enterprise, its capacity to absorb them and its perception of the radical nature of the leap to be made. This research provides elements for understanding the diversity of business model innovations implemented by SMEs in a low-tech sector. JEL codes: L20, M2, O3.
