The DIALog Chair Begins a New Five-Year Cycle

Rethinking Risk Sharing in a World of Transitions

Jun 22, 2026

The DIALog Chair is entering a new chapter in its development. Renewed for five years from 2026 under the auspices of the Fondation du Risque within the Institut Louis Bachelier, in partnership with Paris Dauphine University – PSL and with the support of CNP Assurances, the Chair will continue its work on a central challenge: rethinking risk-sharing mechanisms in a context shaped by profound economic, societal, and environmental transformations.

For this new phase (2026–2030), the Chair is evolving its scientific agenda to explore the implications of three major transitions that are reshaping insurance and risk management models:

  • Climate transition;
  • Demographic and social transition;
  • Digital transition.

A Kick-Off Day to Build a Collective Momentum

On June 4, this new phase was officially launched during a working day that brought together the entire research team at the Palais Brongniart.

Designed as a moment for exchange and collective reflection, the event aimed to foster mutual understanding among researchers, initiate the first scientific discussions, and lay the foundations for a shared dynamic.

Beyond its research programme, a Chair is first and foremost built by the people who bring it to life. Their expertise, disciplines, professional backgrounds, and willingness to collaborate are what make the project truly valuable. This day provided an opportunity to create the conditions for meaningful dialogue among researchers with complementary perspectives.

Bridging Disciplines to Address Tomorrow’s Challenges

The Chair’s three co-directors, Martine Carre-Tallon, Quentin Guibert, and Mathias Valla, presented the scientific ambitions of this new research cycle alongside the members of the research team.

Discussions highlighted ongoing work in actuarial science, economics, and climate science, while also identifying initial avenues for collaboration around the major challenges that will shape the Chair’s activities in the years ahead.

The research team currently brings together:

Martine Carre-Tallon, Christophe Dutang, Tachfine El Alami, Carl Gaigné, Pierre-Olivier Goffard, José Garrido, Quentin Guibert, Caroline Hillairet, Xavier Milhaud, Fabien Moizeau, Claude Lefèvre, Pauline Rivoire, Tristan Roger, Mathias Valla, Jean-Luc Gouthon, Charles Minier, and Yuzhen Z.

Shaping the Future of Insurance in Times of Transition

This launch day marks the beginning of a renewed scientific project, but also the emergence of a collective dynamic that will continue to grow over the coming years.

In the face of climate, social, demographic, and digital challenges, the DIALog Chair seeks to contribute to a better understanding of ongoing transformations and their implications for insurance systems. By fostering dialogue across disciplines and developing research with both academic and practical impact, the Chair aims to shed light on the future of insurance and help rethink the ways risks are understood, organised, and shared.

The Institut Louis Bachelier and the Fondation du Risque would like to thank all the researchers who took part in this inaugural day for the quality of the discussions and the collective commitment that made the launch of this new cycle such a success.
