ILB Labs at the forefront of data sovereignty and blockchain challenges

ILB Labs took part last week in the XRPL Blockchain Research Summit, an international event dedicated to research and innovation within the blockchain ecosystem.

On this occasion, Lina Jouker, Senior Research Analyst – Sustainable Finance at the Institut Louis Bachelier, participated in the panel "From Application to Innovation: The Horizon 2026 Reality Check", alongside Tonia Damvakeraki and Jolanda ter Maten. The discussion focused on a strategic challenge for Europe: data sovereignty.

With around 80% of financial and climate data currently controlled by non-European actors, strengthening Europe's capacity to produce, govern, and leverage its own data has become essential for advancing sustainable finance, artificial intelligence, and, more broadly, Europe's competitiveness. In this context, Horizon Europe programmes play a key role by supporting the development of strategic data infrastructures.

The summit also provided an opportunity for Thibaud Barreau and Mohamed Fahmaoui to present the partnership between ILB Labs and XRP Atlas, which aims to facilitate access to blockchain data, particularly for researchers within the XRPL Commons Ledger network.

Beyond the presentations, the event brought together leading players from the blockchain ecosystem and fostered discussions on the challenges and opportunities of decentralized finance (DeFi), one of the research areas actively explored by ILB Labs.

As part of this commitment, ILB Labs recently published, in partnership with Blockchain for Good, a paper examining the role of blockchain technologies in impact reporting. The publication highlights how blockchain can enhance the transparency, traceability, and credibility of impact data, contributing to a more sustainable and accountable financial system.
