The ILB was created in 2008 at the initiative of the Directorate General of the Treasury, the Caisse des Dépôts, and the IEF and FdR foundations, both recognized as public-interest organizations. Its mission is to structure research by bringing together scholars recognized by their peers for their expertise on complex issues, within leading chairs where the economic models of tomorrow are developed.

ouis Bachelier is the pioneer of the probabilistic approach to finance.
In 1900, in his thesis Théorie de la spéculation, he proposed a model of market prices based on probability theory, introducing for the first time a Brownian motion to describe the evolution of financial assets — a mathematical insight that preceded Einstein’s work on the subject by a few years. This unprecedented approach marked the starting point of modern quantitative finance. The Institut Louis Bachelier is part of this intellectual legacy.
We structure high-level interdisciplinary research to understand economic uncertainty, model risks, and support major contemporary transitions.

The Institut Louis Bachelier structures a network of more than 60 chairs and applied research programs, co-designed with companies, public institutions, and leading researchers.
For 20 years, these chairs have been regularly renewed by their stakeholders — proof of their usefulness, scientific relevance, and real impact on economic, financial, environmental, and social issues.
Our mission: to transform research into concrete resources for public decision-making, private innovation, and a deeper understanding of major contemporary challenges.

A unique ecosystem bringing together the leading experts in finance — researchers, public decision-makers, and private-sector professionals.By joining the ILB, you gain access to a community of excellence and engage each month with those who are advancing research and ideas.
The Europlace Institute of Finance is the driving force behind research in finance and applied economics, with a focus on financial markets and innovation.
The Fondation du Risque complements this approach by offering a broader perspective on the management of uncertainties and crises affecting all economic sectors.Together, they provide a 360° view of finance and risk — essential for businesses, governments, and academic institutions.
Both foundations aim to strengthen academic research and education in fields related to finance and economics. They facilitate dialogue between academics, companies, and public institutions to stimulate innovation.

The ILB is structured around three hubs: an administrative hub for managing projects and partnerships, a Communication & Engagement hub to promote research and energize the network, and the ILB Labs to support the analysis and modeling of major economic and societal challenges.

The ILB offers an especially dynamic program of events every month, throughout the entire year. Thanks to our interdisciplinary network of chairs, these events explore major contemporary issues ranging from artificial intelligence to climate risk, as well as demographic dynamics and transformations in the world of work.
Within this rich offering, three flagship events structure our calendar:
– ILB Risks Forum, the annual gathering of academic excellence in risk finance
– Green Finance Research Advances (GFRA), a leading academic event on sustainable finance, co-organized with the Banque de France
– Conversations à venir, in partnership with BNP Paribas, a forward-looking format that brings together economics, society, and research at the Collège de France
